Artist Statement

I approach choreography as a dynamic process of discovery and collaboration. Through playful, expressive movement-investigation, compelling theatrical elements, and versatile choreographic structures, I craft dance works that consider the interaction between the observers' perspective and the material they encounter. My creative work extends beyond the traditional stage to the medium of dance film, allowing for innovative explorations of camera work, editing, and unique environments.

My movement vocabulary draws inspiration from a wide range of music, ballet and modern movement styles, alongside fads found in American popular culture and technology. I often weave in humor, seeking moments of lightheartedness and unexpected joy within the choreography. My creative practice includes working collaboratively with the dancers, highlighting their individual strengths while pushing them to explore their fullest potential and express themselves authentically. 

Whether creating for the stage or screen, I operate within organized frameworks rooted in established choreographic models, such as narrative or variations of a theme. These models are adapted and combined to best suit the intention for each piece, allowing for both structure and improvisation.

In each creative project, I strive to consider the audience's experience, intending to elicit cognitive and emotional interactions. I hope that through their engagement with the art of dance, audiences can find a moment of escape from the everyday and gain or increase their appreciation for dance.
